| Preston Village | 129-8 |
| Edin Accies 2nd XI | 130-6 |
After several weeks rain, the sun was shining as Accies travelled round the East Lothian coast to play Preston Village. After the defeat to Murrayfield DAFS, everyone was keen to get the season back on track with a strong performance.
We were greeted by a bit of a green pitch but one that was firm (which makes a change for this summer) and when Doc promptly won the toss, he decided to field. Tom and Sammy opened the bowling for Accies and were immediately hitting the right areas of the pitch and bowled a hostile opening spell. Tom’s first 5 overs went for just 2 runs and he got the early breakthrough when Dixon was out LBW. Preston Village rebuilt with a steady partnership between Dobie and King but some excellent fielding meant Accies built up a period of sustained pressure and we were rewarded when Deepak trapped Dobie LBW. Boyd swiftly followed Dobie back to the hutch when he was dismissed in similar fashion by Deepak. Ahtesham was producing some excellent deliveries from the other, spinning the ball both ways and surprising everybody with his quicker ball. Sammy cam back and bagged himself 3 wickets as King, Dixon and Ray were all quickly dismissed. Tom then finished his spell by picking up 2 further wickets to finish with figures of 9 overs, 5 maidens, 3 for 5. A top effort in the field although this was somewhat marred by the 29 wides given away.
After enjoying tea in the sunshine, the batting order was shaken up and Doc opened with Steve. Some swift running between the wickets saw the scoreboard tick over nicely before Doc fell LBW for 7 with 17 on the board. Macca joined Steve in the middle and despite middling a couple of deliveries, he failed to find the boundary as the lush outfield slowed the ball up. Macca fell shortly after for 8 and Preston Village were well in the game as Accies slumped to 27-2. Tom and Steve rebuilt the innings and put on 47 for the 3rd wicket before Steve fell LBW to Edwards. Tom followed shortly after as he dragged on and Accies were 81-4. Ivan defended stoutly before he fell LBW for 3 leaving Accies needing 36 to win. Blackie came in and with Sammy put on a valuable 28 runs in quick time before Sammy holed out to deep mid on where Dixon took a good catch. Deepak came in and after being put down first ball, hit the winning runs as he hit the winning runs to see Accies to a much needed win.
Next up is Holy Cross at Newfield with the 2nds finally getting on the main square at Newfield for the 1st time since the opening day of the season.
