Accies beat Holy Cross

Edin Accies 2nd XI 106-6
Holy Cross 2nd XI 105 ao

The 2nd XI welcomed Holy Cross to Newfield hopeful of continuing their good form. After Doc lost the toss and was asked to field, the new ball pairing of Marc Jordan and Ryan Williams (Rhino) immediately put the opposition under pressure. Rhino made an early breakthrough when Shazad edged behind where Blackie took an excellent diving catch.

Sammy and Ahtesham came on as a double change and Ahtesham quickly dismissed the other opener LBW. Some accurate bowling kept the pressure on Holy Cross and Sammy quickly sent Bates back when he bowled him. Ahtesham was proving difficult to play on a wicket that was conducive to spin. Gus replaced Sammy and the spin kings quickly made in roads into the middle order with Sammy taking a difficult catch on the boundary to remove Cydzik off Gus’s bowling and Ahtesham bowling Quinn, Lghafor and Graham. Gus cleaned up the tail including 2 smart caught and bowled to finish with 4 wickets as HX were all out for 105.

Doc and Steve opened the batting for Accies and were going well until Doc left a delivery that nipped back to hit the top of off stump. Steve was in good form and scoring quickly as the score raced to fifty. Accies lost 3 quick wickets as Macca, Gus and Vikas all fell cheaply. Ryan steadied the ship with Steve took Accies to within sight of the target before Steve and Tamal were both out LBW in consecutive deliveries. Sammy joined Ryan in the middle to ensure Accies got over the finishing line to secure 20 points.

A good performance in the field and some solid batting from Ryan and Steve ensured Accies still harbour hopes of finishing in the top two to secure promotion.
